Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE)
The MA SANE Program provides trauma-informed, expert forensic nursing care to sexual assault patients across the lifespan in Massachusetts. The MASANE Program has 3 distinct components: The Adolescent/Adult SANE Program, the Pediatric SANE Program, and the National TeleNursing Center (NTC). The MA SANE Program works in close partnership with other service agencies to support sexual assault patients including local Rape Crisis Centers and Children’s Advocacy Center staff. A Rape Crisis Advocate will respond to a designated MA SANE hospital, along with a SANE, to help support the patient and link the patient to important aftercare services. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) provide medical forensic examinations at no cost to patients in designated hospitals and Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) across the Commonwealth.
